Australian Goanna teardrop earrings

A pair of large Australian teardrop earrings with vibrant blue artwork.

The artwork is from Ruth Nungarrayi Spencer’s painting Goanna Dreaming. According to the dreamtime story, a group of Warlpiri women were sitting in a circle when a Wamaru man from the Japangardi people came up to them. One of the women went with him up the hill where they made love. The earth turned to a yellow and white ochre and the man and all the women were turned into goannas. The ochre is still found on top of the hill and is used for love magic and ceremonial decoration.

The artwork has been photo anodised onto aluminium which has a silky smooth finish. The aluminium drops are green on the reverse side and have hammered silver discs hanging from the end. The drops hang on closed sterling silver hooks which have a gently hammered finish.
