Spica earrings

These beautiful beaded Spica earrings by Italian jewellery designer Milena Zu come from Ubud, Bali. Their simple black and silver colours work well for an evening out, and the delicate design gives them a lovely, understated look.

They make each earring by crocheting fine brass wire by hand. They then silver plates and partly oxidises the wire to create its dark grey finish. Tiny black and silver Swarovski beads add a little sparkle to the drops as they catch the light.

Sterling silver snake chains hold the drops, which measure around 15mm wide. The earrings measure 80mm from top to bottom.

Milena works with local craftsmen in Ubud who know an ancient crocheting technique. They crochet every piece by hand because no machine can produce the same result. As a result, each pair of beaded Spica earrings has its own subtle variations and character.
